10 Most Googled Online Shopping Sites In India

Chennai: Google Zeitgeist is the search giant’s annual report of the most popular online searches. Zeitgeist contains lists of the most frequently searched queries; the summary is generated for the U.S. and many other countries as well. Google India’s annual report this year reveals netizens’ love for online shopping, with various e-commerce sites emerging as the most searched terms. This year also saw a rise in the gaming category for the first time, as the Indian gaming community as a whole is gathering steam.

The top 10 most-searched queries are based on the volume of searches, while trending queries are based on the highest amount of traffic over a sustained period in 2013 compared with 2012.

Unsurprisingly, Flipkart has emerged as the most searched shopping website. The Bangalore based company which started in 2007 has been a trend-setter in India popularizing online shopping and paving the way for many more such companies. The firm initially focused only on books, but it soon expanded and now offers a wide range of products covering almost every category that’s out there. Flipkart offers numerous benefits and incentives to customers including free shipping and cash-on-delivery which is considered to be one of the reasons behind the company’s success.  According to Alexa, Flipkart is the 10^th most popular website in India.

OLX

OLX, a Buenos Aires based internet company that was founded in 2006 also offers a dedicated Indian website. The company offers free user generated classifieds advertisements, which the user has complete control over. Alexa ranks OLX as the 19^th most popular Indian website.

Snapdeal

Snapdeal is one of the India’s largest online marketplace with over 20 million registered users. Started in 2010 as a daily needs platform, it expanded in 2011 to become a full-fledged e-commerce marketplace. It currently offers more than 4 million products across a wide range of categories and ships to more than 4000 towns and cities in India. The company has received many awards including the eRetailer of the Year & Best Advertising campaign of the year in 2012.

Myntra.com, launched in 2007 is one of the largest online retailers for fashion and lifestyle products in India. Headquartered in Bangalore, it aims at providing hassle free and enjoyable shopping experience across the country. The company currently offers products from more than 350 Indian and International brands and has tie-ups with some of the top fashion and lifestyle brands in India, such as Nike, Reebok, Puma, Adidas, FILA, John Miller and others. Myntra.com has won a number of awards including the Fashion eRetailer of the Year Award in 2013.

Ebay

Ebay is yet another multi-billion dollar online shopping company that has a dedicated Indian website. Unlike most of the other websites listed here, Ebay is a large auction based online marketplace where millions of rare collectibles, appliances, computer, vehicles and other miscellaneous items can be bought. Sometimes even some of the most unusual item appears for sale on Ebay, such as fighter jets and aircraft carriers.

Amazon

Amazon being the world’s largest online retailer launched a separate retail website for India earlier this year. The company offers products from every category under the sun. But unlike its international sister site, the Indian portal only has a marketplace where third-party sellers can sell their goods.

Yepme

Yepme.com was launched in 2010 by three alumni of IIT (Indian Institutes of Technology) and IIM (Indian Institutes of Management) who have vast experience in building other successful online companies like Bagittoday.com. After being started as an online apparel retailer, in 2011 the company decided to focus on private label fashion wear instead of branded apparel. In August 2012, Business Today reported that around 49 per cent of Yepme's 200,000 customers so far have gone back to it a second time. And later in December last year, Forbes India reported that Yepme.com was one of the top start-ups to watch out for.

Yebhi

Started in 2009 as BigShoeBazaar.com; Yehbi, now with a user-base of over 1.5 million is one of the fastest growing companies in the lifestyle segment in India.
