Bangalore: Ad agencies are the most dynamic industry where most creative minds in the world exist. Infact, it’s all in the hands of the ad filmmakers to make or break a firm’s marketing campaign.

Since there is a growing demand for ad agencies in the world, Economic Times has listed top 10 advertising agencies across the world, ranked on the basis of their revenues.



1. WPP
Country: The United Kingdom
Major Clients: Colgate-Palmolive, HSBC And Vodafone
Revenue: $15.6 Billion


WPP is the world largest advertising agency. The company is headquartered in London and has about 165,000 employees across the world.

In terms of its revenue, WPP is the biggest ad agency with about 3000 offices across 110 countries.

It owns a number of advertising, public relations and market research networks, including Grey, Burson-Marsteller, Hill & Knowlton, JWT, Ogilvy Group, TNS, Young & Rubicam and Cohn & Wolfe.

The company was started in 1985 by Martin Sorrell. Initially he bought stake in a company that produced wire baskets at the same time looking for a marketing services across the globe. Over the decades, the company started buying stakes on number of firms that were renowned and later emerged as a powerful ad agency in the world. 

2. Omnicom Group

Country: The United States
Major Clients: Pepsico, AT&T And Microsoft
Revenue: $14.3 Billion


Omnicom Group is an advertising agency that is headquartered in New York City. The company has expanded its international network along with more than 1,500 agencies and offers its services 5000 permanent clients.

Omnicom provides services like marketing and communications, customer relationship management (CRM), strategic media planning and buying, digital and interactive marketing, direct and promotional marketing, public relations (PR) and other specialty communications.

The company’s all time competitors are WPP Group, Interpublic Group, Publicis Groupe, MDC Partners and Havas.



3. Publicis Groupe
Country: France
Major Clients: Gucci, Hermes, LVMH
Revenue: $7.7 Billion


This French based ad agency was founded by Marcel Bleustein in 1926. The brand name Publicis was chosen because in French it means “advertising” and "six",  Bleustein’s favorite number.

Publicis has its footprints in about 108 countries with total employees of about 60,000 across the world.

The company’s major clients are Gucci, Hermes and LVMH.


4. Interpublic Group Of Companies
Country: The United States

Major Clients: General Motors, Johnson & Johnson, Microsoft And Unilever
Revenue: $6.693 Billion


With about 44,800 employees across the world, IPG provides specialized consumer advertising, digital marketing, communications planning and media buying, public relations and specialty marketing.

In 1960, the company was first founded as marketing services management firm along with McCann-Erickson and McCann-Marschalk as its two subsidiaries.  From then, the company has grown to great heights.



5. Dentsu
Country: Japan
Clients: Kraft, Canon and Toyota
Revenue: $3.1 Billion


There might be many ad agencies in the world, but no company till date were able to take the place of Dentsu in Japan. It has more than 6000 clients across the world and simultaneously controls the Japanese market up to 30 percent.

Moreover, in the 20th century the company was responsible for producing first newspaper advertisements as well as the first television commercials in Japan.

6. Havas
Country: France

Clients: Air France, Citigroup, IBM
Revenue: 1.77 Billion Euros


It is the second largest advertising group in France. According to the Havas official website, it is "global advertising and communications services group”. It is also the 6th largest ad agency in the world.

The company has employed 15,000 people across the world. It has the annual revenue of 1.77 billion Euros and it has its major clients like Air France, Citigroup and IBM.



7. Hakuhodo
Country: Japan
Clients: Apple, Nissan and Suzuki
Revenue: 1.2 Trillion Yen


Hakuhodo was founded in 1895 and is one of the oldest advertising agencies in Japan. The company takes the responsibility of brand management, TV commercials and newspaper ads and strategy planning.

Hakuhodo has spread its foot prints across the world which includes Asia and the United States.


8. Merkle
Country: The United States

Clients: Walmart, Dell And Novartis
Revenue: $300 Million


David Williams the current CEO of Merkle bought the company for $5.2 million in 1988. The company has more than 1,700 employees. Infact the company has become one of the leaders in the world of advertising.

9. Global Experience Specialists

Country: The United States
Clients: Nike, Philips And Dove
Revenue: $249.3 Million




It is one of the largest providers of exhibition, conference and event services not only in United States, but also in Canada and United Kingdom. Global Experience Specialists is a part of Viad Corporation along with 60 offices across the world.



10. Epsilon

Country: The United States
Clients: Ford, General Motors, P&G
Revenue: $898 Million




The company was started when four students from Harvard University created a database to store the contact information of the students. Today the company is known as Epsilon, one of the biggest marketing agencies in the whole of United States.
